AUSTINTOWN - A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 27, 2012, at 7 p.m. at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Homes, Boardman-Canfield Chapel, for Janice Bailey, 68, who died Monday at her home after a lengthy battle with Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease.
Janice was born Jan. 19, 1944, in Santa Monica, Calif., the daughter of James Ross and Frances Girdwood Wilson.
She was a graduate of Youngstown State University, earning her Bachelors degree in English and studied anthropology in post graduate studies.
She had worked at Protestant Family Services, the Ohio Bureau of Employment Services and retired as the director of the Mahoning Valley Dispute Resolution Services. Janice became a foster parent for primates, which led her to become an active advocate for animal rights.
She is survived by her husband, Gerald Bailey, whom she married Jan. 21, 1964; two sons, Gerald B. Christine Bailey of Boardman and Russell H. Bailey of Austintown; a sister, Elizabeth Tim Lehotsky of Canfield; and four grandchildren, Ryan, Brooke, Ross and Zoe Bailey.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Stephanie Weber; and her stepfather, Richard Bestor.
The Bailey family has requested that material tributes take the form of donations to Grace Hospice in Janice's memory.
Friends may call from 6 p.m. until the time of service Tuesday evening at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Homes, Boardman-Canfield Chapel.
