AUSTINTOWN - Prayers will begin Thursday at 9:15 a.m. at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Homes, Austintown Chapel followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Basilica, with the Very Rev. Msgr. Michael J. Cariglio officiating, for Janice P. Dolansky, 76, who died peacefully Sunday evening at Shepherd of the Valley surrounded by her family.
Janice was born May 8, 1942 in Youngstown, the daughter of Angelo and Margaret (Gonda) Poghen.
She was a 1961 graduate of The Rayen School.
Janice loved to bake. She owned and operated Petals and Pastries Bakery for 35 years, where she made delicious cakes and cookies.
She was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church.
Her husband, Thomas J. Dolansky, whom she married April 25, 1970, died Sept. 22, 2011.
Janice is survived by two daughters, Mary Margaret Dolansky-Kohut (Michael) of North Ridgeville and Anna Marie (William) Slomcheck of Austintown, whom she made her home with for the last six years; brother William (Gina) Poghen of Tenn.; grand-daughter Faith Slomcheck; and fur-grandchildren, Chloe, Daisy, Remmington, Petey, Bull and Oliver.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; an infant son; sister-in-law Helene Poghen; and her in-laws, John and Anna Dolansky.
Family and friends may call Wednesday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
The family has requested that material tributes take the form of donations to the family.
