Jason D. Greenawalt, 45, passed away on August 31 2024, at St. Elizabeth Boardman Hospital, from complications due to an automobile accident.
Born on June 5, 1979, in Youngstown, Jason lived a life filled with love, laughter, and a variety of passions that brought joy to those around him. During his teenager years, Jason was a dedicated paperboy and worked at Rockne's restaurant in Boardman for over a decade.
Jason was a member of St. Matthias Church in Youngstown and a 1997 graduate of Cardinal Mooney High School. He continued his education at ITT Tech earing an Associate's Degree in Criminal Justice and later, a degree in Applied Business Computer Applications from National College. His career as a Loss Prevention Officer showcased his commitment to the community, where he worked closely with local police departments.
Jason had a profound enthusiasm for collecting antiques, coins, and stamps, just to name a few. He took delight in sharing his extensive baseball card collection with his beloved nephews. In addition, Jason had a flair for the excitement of going to the casino and betting on horses. He was an avid Cleveland Browns and Pittsburgh Pirates fan.
Family was everything to Jason. He leaves behind a loving mother, Georgia Greenawalt of New Middletown; his son and best friend, Zac Greenawalt of Poland, whom he adored wholeheartedly; two sisters, Melissa (Tim) Chizmar of Struthers and Alyson (Danny) Klingensmith of Austintown; nephews, Andrew, Aiden, Alex, and Avery Chizmar; two nieces, Ava and Laila Klingensmith; his two cats, Rex and Felix, and numerous friends and cousins.
Jason was preceded in death by his father, Donald Greenawalt; godmother, JoAnn (Aunt Jo) Vendetti Bunosky; maternal grandparents, George and Josephine Dudash; and paternal grandparents Ron and JoAnne Grenawalt.
Family and friends may pay their respects Sunday from 4 to 5:30 PM at Higgins-Reardon Funeral Homes, Poland Chapel, where a Funeral Service will follow at 5:30 PM.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to help his son, Zac during this difficult time.
