YOUNGSTOWN - Prayers will be held Thursday at 10:45 a.m. at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Home, Poland Chapel followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:30 a.m. at St. Patrick Church in Youngstown for Jean R. Gallagher, 80, who died peacefully Monday morning.
Jean was born June 18, 1929 in Youngstown, the daughter of William and Andrea Bedel Zimmerman.
Jean was a 1948 graduate of South High School. She worked at Strouss/Kaufmans in the linens department, where she retired after 25 years and was a member of the Diamond Employee Club. She was a member of St. Patrick Church, where she was a greeter on Sundays and a member of the Youngstown Lady Shriners.
Her greatest love was spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Her husband, Richard P. "Dick" Gallagher, whom she married Nov. 5, 1949, and he died March 7, 2007.
Jean leaves four daughters, Laura Don Durkin of Youngstown, Kathy Lloyd Haas, with whom she made her home, Toni Dan Karas of Struthers and Patty Jeff Overly of Boardman; two sons, Rick Helen Gallagher of Youngstown and Michael Karen Gallagher of Olmsted Falls; three brothers, Bill Pansy Zimmerman of South Carolina and Henry Zimmerman and John N. Zimmerman of Austintown; 17 grandchildren, Ricky, Jodi, and Mark Gallagher, Kelly Earvin, Don and Matt Durkin, Lloyd, Tammy, and Michelle Haas, Chrissy Mancini, Keith, Kevin, and Korey Karas, Katie and Sarah Gallagher and Austin and Brooke Overly; and twelve great-grandchildren.
Jean was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; four sisters, Lillian Mikita, Sis. Fredrick, Betty McCready and Sylvia Creatore; a brother, Glenn Zimmerman; and a great-granddaughter, Lyndsi Haas.
Friends may call Wednesday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Home, Poland Chapel.
