Jean Rice

YOUNGSTOWN - Prayers will be held Wednesday at 9:15 a.m. at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Homes, Austintown Chapel, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at St. Christine Church for Jean Marie Rice, 88, who passed away Saturday.

Jean was born March 31, 1928, in Youngstown, the daughter of Frank and Florence (Manning) Veauthier.

She was a 1946 graduate of South High School and was a homemaker who dedicated her life to caring for her family. She also enjoyed traveling.

Her husband, Donald P. Rice, whom she married Oct. 9, 1948, passed away July 20, 2011.

She is survived by her son, Bruce (Kris Betts) Rice of Cortland; three sisters, Sally (James) Onyan of Aurora, Colo., Mary (Bill Gentile) Swift of Lakewood Ranch, Fla., and Irene (Dan) Stout of Berlin Center; four grandchildren, Rebecca (Moy) Hernandez, Daniel Rice, Sarah Anderson and Michael Anderson; two great-grandchildren, Chloe and Arianna; and a son-in-law, Ron Anderson of Poland.

Jean was also preceded in death by her daughter, Susan Marie Anderson.

Family and friends may call on Tuesday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.

The family has requested that material tributes take the form of donations to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, in Jean's name.
