AUSTINTOWN - Funeral services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Home Boardman-Canfield Chapel for Mrs. Jean M. Roche, 88, who died Tuesday evening at The Sterling House.
Jean was born Dec. 2, 1920 in Youngstown, a daughter of Albert and Marie Sweeney Martin.
After graduating from South High School in 1938, she worked at U.S. Steel McDonald Works. She then worked for the Youngstown Board of Education for over 23 years, first at Harding School and later as a secretary at The Rayen School for many years, retiring in 1985.
A former member of the Western Reserve United Methodist Church, she was an avid Rayen basketball fan, a Cleveland Indian fan and enjoyed traveling especially to New York City to see Broadway Shows.
Jean was married to John "Jack" Roche, whom she married Nov. 18, 1944, and he died May 3, 1956.
She leaves a daughter, Jacquelyn M. John R. Burgan of Boardman; a brother, Lloyd Audrey Martin of Austintown; and the apple of her eye, her grandson, Patrick Burgan.
Jean was preceded in death by her husband and brother, Robert "Pepper" Martin.
Friends may call Saturday from 9 to 10:45 a.m. at the funeral home.
The family would like to thank the staff and caregivers of The Sterling House and Home Instead for their kind care during Jean's illness.
The family has requested that material tributes be made to the Rescue Mission in Jean's memory.
