BOARDMAN - A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated today at 11 a.m. at St. Brendan Church for Jerome W. "Mike" Kennedy, 88, who died Sunday at the Woodlands.

Mike was born Oct. 31, 1924, in Youngstown, the son of Patrick F. and Margaret M. Farmer Kennedy.

He was a 1944 graduate of Chaney High School, where he excelled in football. He attended Heidelberg College on a football scholarship.
He later served in the Army during the Korean War. He was the owner operator of the Polar Bear Cafe on Youngstown's west side for over 30 years.
He was a lifelong member of St. Brendan Church, a member of Tippecanoe Country Club, the Mahoning Valley Gaelic Society and the Caprice Club and was active in the Jaycees.
He is survived by his wife, the former Julie Strilbycki, whom he married Aug. 26, 1950, and three brothers, Richard Tina Martin Kennedy of Youngstown, Dennis Shirley Kennedy of Austintown and Austin Kennedy of Lake Milton.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Mary Evans and Margaret Conroy and five brothers, Thomas, Patrick, John Joseph, Robert and Maurice.
Friends may call from 10 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. today at St. Brendan Church.
The family has requested that material tributes take the form of donations to St. Brendan Church in Mike's memory.
The Kennedy family would like to thank the dedicated staff of the Woodlands for their great care during Mike's stay.
