YOUNGSTOWN - Services will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at the Zion Lutheran Church, 3900 Canfield Road in Cornersburg, for Joanna Conkey Hemphill, 88, who died Friday evening at Austinwoods Care Center.
Joanna was born Jan. 27, 1925, the daughter of William and Vesta (Measmer) Davis.
She worked as a Licensed Practical Nurse at Northside Hospital for over 20 years before retiring in 1988.
She was a lifelong member of Zion Lutheran Church and was active in its Sunday School, Bible Studies, Healing Hearts, the WELCA group and served as a council member. Joanna was also active with her hospital retirees of SEIU No. 627, Christian Woman's club and the Poland Baptist Golden Eagles.
Her first husband, Donald Conkey, whom she married April 4, 1942, died Aug. 11, 1959.
Her second husband, Neal Hemphill, whom she married in 1976, died Nov. 29, 1983.
She is survived by two daughters, Margaret (George) Bondor of Atlanta, and Cindy (Tom) Christoff of Boardman; a son, Don (Jaci) Conkey of Youngstown; two step children, Mickey (Tracy) Hemphill and Ilene (Bob) Clouse; 11 grandchildren; and a son-in-law, Frank Paden of Boardman.
She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Marsha Paden; a sister, Norma Grantz; and four brothers, William, Robert, David and John Davis.
Joanna's family would like to thank Austinwoods, MVI Hospice and Joanna's caregiver, Danielle, for their compassionate care.
The family has requested that material tributes take the form of donations to either the Zion Lutheran Church Food Bank, 3900 Canfield Road, Youngstown, OH 44511, or Angels for Animals in Joanna's memory.
Friends may call on Monday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Homes, Boardman-Canfield Chapel and Tuesday for one hour prior to services at the Zion Lutheran Church.
