CANFIELD - Funeral services will be held Thursday, at 11 a.m. at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Homes, Austintown Chapel, for Joanne Spencer, 79, who passed away Saturday evening at the Humility House.
Joanne was born Feb. 8, 1937, in Youngstown, a daughter of the late Myron "Bud" and Sara Eleanor (Commings) Wilkins.
Joanne was a 1955 graduate of East High School and worked for U.S. Steel as a secretary. She was a manager at Evenson's Hallmark in the Southern Park Mall and a pharmacist assistant at Bittner's Pharmacy.
She enjoyed many years selling baskets at "The Basket Shoppe" during the Canfield Fair. Later, she worked in the office during fair time. Joanne was a member of the Red Hats Society and the East High Girlfriends. She loved to bowl and play pool and was a member of the Twilight Bowling League at Mar Hill Bowling and the pool leagues at Mar Hill Bowling and Wedgewood Lanes.
Joanne was a volunteer at Shepherd of the Valley. She also enjoyed playing bingo at St. Joseph Church. Her favorite pastimes included cross stitching, crossword and jigsaw puzzles.
Joanne leaves her husband, George W. Spencer, whom she married April 21, 1957; two daughters, Virginia "Ginny" (Matt) Komara of Tallmadge and Leigh (Karen Heney) Spencer of Brisbane, Australia; two grandchildren, Johnathan (Kelly) Komara and Katelynn Komara; and two great-grandchildren, Wyatt Spencer Komara and Weston James Komara; a sister, Carole Russ of Austintown; a brother-in-law, Andrew Frost of Austintown; and many nieces and nephews.
Joanne was preceded in death by a sister, Nancy Frost.
Family and friends may call Wednesday from 4 to 7 p.m. and Thursday from 10 to 11 a.m. at the funeral home.
Burial will take place at Lake Park Cemetery.
