POLAND - A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Tuesday morning at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Sorrows Parish St. Matthias Church, for Joanne M. Turek, 74, who died Friday evening, surrounded by family.
Joanne was born Nov. 17, 1940, in Youngstown, the daughter of Anthony and Mary (Pedaline) DeNiro.
She was a 1958 graduate of Wilson High School, where she served on the reunion committee and later graduated from Youngstown College. She worked as a Registered Nurse for over 25 years, before retiring from Boardman Community Care. She was a member of the church, an active member of the Ohio Nurses Association, the Poland Fireman's woman's auxiliary, the benevolent committee at St. Matthias and volunteered for blood pressure screenings.
She is survived by her husband, Leon E. Turek, whom she married June 30, 1962; two daughters, Susan (John) Filipovich of Boardman and Lisa Francis of Boardman; a son, Gary (Brenda) Turek of Boardman; a brother, Anthony P. (Porsia) DeNiro Jr. of Austintown; and four grandchildren, Sarah and Matthew Filipovich, Macy Francis and Jacob Turek.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Friends may call Monday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Homes, Poland Chapel and Tuesday from 9 to 9:45 a.m. at St Matthias Church.
The family has requested that material tributes take the form of donations to Hospice of the Valley in Joanne's memory.
