John Allen

AUSTINTOWN - Funeral services will be held Friday at 6 p.m. at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Homes, Austintown Chapel, for John B. Allen, 68, who died Tuesday evening at St. Elizabeth Health Center in Youngstown, surrounded by his family.
John was born Sept. 4, 1945, in Steubenville, to Joseph and Virginia (Custer) Allen.
He was a graduate of Weir High School in Weirton, W.Va. John worked for Wean United as fabrication fitter for 21 years. He retired from Howland Machine in 2011 after 17 years.
John loved to work, but mostly enjoyed the time he spent with his family and his dog, Honey.
He is survived by his wife, the former Kathleen Kesner, whom he married Sept. 15, 1989; a daughter Jennifer (Brian) Malatok of New Middletown; a son John (Patricia) Allen of Lexington, S.C.; two stepdaughters, Linnette Patterson of Austintown and Michelle (Scott) Packer of Austintown; two sisters, Doris (Geno) Iafrate of West Virginia and Sandra (Anthony) Lynn of Boardman; 11 grandchildren, Alyssa (Bert) Allen Smith, Courtney Allen, Alexanderia Allen, Will Heid Jr., Rachel Malatok, Lindsay (Cory) Susany, Brittany Packer, Paige Patterson, Amanda Larson, Zane Patterson and Jake Larson; and one great-grandchild, Lane Allen Smith.
John was preceded in death by his parents and stepson, Edward Larson.
Family and friends may call Friday from 4 to 6 p.m. at the funeral home.
The family would especially like to thank the staff of St. Elizabeth Health Center, 8th floor, to the Hospice nurses, Stephanie and Tracy and to Dr. Denise Bobovnyik for their exceptional care during John's illness.
The family has requested that material tributes take the form of donations to Hospice House, 9803 Sharrot Road, Poland, OH 44514.
