John Campbell

John L. Campbell, 84

Youngstown- Funeral Services will be 3pm. Sunday at Bridge of Hope Church, for John L. Campbell, of Youngstown, who passed away Wednesday January 16, 2008.
John was born December 7, 1923 in Latrobe, Pennsylvania to the late Harry S. and Alvira Shontz Campbell.
He moved to Youngstown in 1937 with his family.
John served in WWII, enlisting April 12, 1943. He served in the army in the 14th Tank Battalion. He received Three Bronze Stars for his actions during the Battle of the Bulge. This was specifically during action capturing the Ludenon Bridge in the town of Remageon on the Rhine river.
John retired from Roadway Express in 1980, after 22 years of service. He was a member of Teamsters Local 333.
Mr. Campbell is survived by his wife, the former Elizabeth "Betty" Szakach, whom he married October 27, 1956, a daughter, Patricia of Orlando, FL, two sons, Roger of Orlando, FL and John of Los Angelus, CA; a sister, Ida Afflerbach of Allentown, PA, and a grandson, Alexander Joshua Campbell of Orlando, FL.
Besides his parents, John is preceded in death by his two sisters, Margaret "Peg" Goldworthy and Edith DeMine; two brothers, Joseph and Harry.
Friends may call Sunday from 2-3 pm at the church.
Burial with military services will be Monday at 10am at Forest Lawn Cemetery.
