Austintown- A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday at 10:00 AM in the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church and prayers offered at 9:30 AM at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Home, Austintown Chapel for Mr. John M. DeCenso, age 95, who died Saturday morning to be with his beloved wife. He died at Assumption Village surrounded by his family.
John was born July 24, 1913 in Bugnara, Abruzzo, Italy to the late Concezio and Maria Nolfi DeCenso.
He was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Church. He retired in 1978 from AJAX Magnethermic after 36 years of service. During WWII he was employed as a welder in Warren, Ohio making the gun turrets for the Sherman Tank. He was a fan of baseball and was an avid golfer.
Besides his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Catherine M. Hripko DeCenso whom he married May 1, 1954, and died September 22, 2008. He is also preceded in death by two brothers, Arthur and Mario DeCenso, and a brother-in-law Leo Andrews.
He is survived by his son James Geri DeCenso of North Lima, a brother Frank Jane DeCenso of Girard, and a sister Amelia Andrews of Camarillo, CA.
Friends may call Monday from 6-8 PM at the funeral home.
Burial will be at Resurrection Cemetery.
