FLORIDA ? Prayers will begin Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Home, Boardman-Canfield Chapel, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at 11 a.m. at St. Michael?s Catholic Church in Canfield for John F. Donadee, 85, formerly of Boardman, who passed away peacefully Saturday morning, Aug. 7, surrounded by his children.

He was born in the Brier Hill area of Youngstown, a son of Giovani and Philomena Donadee.

He graduated from The Rayen School in January of 1943, where he played football and was named All-City end in 1942. He was awarded a football scholarship to Miami University of Ohio.

When World War II broke out, he joined the U.S. Marine Corps, where he fought in the Pacific Islands. He later was drafted from the Marine Corps Reserves for service in the Korean War effort. After serving his country, he attended Oberlin College on the G.I. Bill.

He married Dorothy Nocera on Feb. 7, 1947, whom he had met at the Elms Ballroom, where they enjoyed dancing.

In 1961, after working for the Mahoning County Engineers, John founded the Youngstown Pneumatic Concrete Co., a bridge building company the preceded several bridge companies now operating from the Youngstown area.

He spent time at Marco Island, Fla., where he later retired. He earned his ship captain?s license and enjoyed Gulf boating and fishing.

He was a member of St. Christine?s, St. Michael?s and San Marco Roman Catholic Churches.

John is survived by a sister, Carmel Maciocca; a brother, Frank Janet Donadee; three children, Debbie Lenny Marucci, Jack Janey Donadee and Becky David DiRusso; eight grandchildren, Jason Marucci, Leone Marucci, Ria Forchione, Dr. Chenell Donadee, Jacob Donadee, Jonathon Donadee and Dante DiRusso, Gavin DiRusso; and seven great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by Dorothy, his loving wife of 55 years; his parents; and two sisters, Nora Guido and Antoinette Fleming.

Friends may call from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Home, Boardman-Canfield Chapel.
