COLUMBIANA John E. Doyle Sr., 86, formerly of Youngstown, died Sunday evening at St. Mary¹s Alzheimer¹s Center after a six year battle with Alzheimer¹s Disease.
John was born Jan. 2, 1922 in Youngstown to the late Eugene F. and Winifred E. McGill Doyle.
He retired in 1982 from Republic Steel after 36 years of service as a Locomotive Engineer. John was a WWII veteran serving in the Army 559th Bomb Squadron, seeing action in the Normandy, Northern France, Ardennes, Rhineland and Central Europe campaigns.
He was a member of the Lowellville Rod and Gun Club, the Steel Workers Union Local 1331, and former member of the Knights of Columbus Mons Meirs, and the Catholic War Veterans.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Ann Sullivan, Ruth Sheets, and Eileen Ciolli; his brothers, Eugene and Robert Doyle; and his former wife, Betty Jean Doyle.
He is survived by four daughters, Terry Doyle of Columbus, Peggy Burkle of Dayton, Sandra Beddies of Kettering, and Jane Garchar of Coitsville; three sons, John E. Doyle Jr. of New Middletown, James Doyle of New Middletown and Robert Doyle of Dayton; four sisters, Mary Deitrich, Jane Doyle, Patricia Edwards and Rita Schmidt; 16 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and close friends and caregivers, Ron and Charlotte Kinnick of Youngstown.
