John Funcheon

Youngstown . .The Mass of Christine Burial will be held Wednesday at 10:30 Am in St. Christine Catholic Church, Youngstown for Mr. John L. Funcheon, age 88, of Youngstown who died Saturday evening at St. Elizabeth's Medical Center.

John was born May 10, 1920 a son of John I. and Ida C. Mathias Funcheon .

He was a graduate of the Rayen School and was one of the first eight students of Youngstown College enrolled on the G.I. Bill and graduated with a B.S. degree in Business administration and received a masters in Accounting. He was a WWII veteran with the united States Marine Corp.with the 3rd Marine Division in the South Pacific. He was employed with the I.R.S. for thirty years as an agent and manager in the Audit Division retiring in 1976 as the District Director representative overseeing the Youngstown Office. John then was a self-employed C.P.A. for 15 years retiring in 1991.

John was a charter member of St. Christine's, a life member of the Disabled American Veterans, a member of the American Legion Post # 15, former board member and treasure of the American Red Cross of Mahoning County, former member and past President of the Rotary Club of Youngstown and was a Paul Harris Fellow recipient , a member of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees and was awarded the U.S. Treasury Dept. Albert Gallatin Award for serving in the treasury Dept.

He was married to the former Gladys V. Ellis whom he married December 22, 1942 and died December 28, 2004.

He leaves his two sisters Mary Morrison of Poland and Judith Bill Joyce of Swampscott Mass. and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife and two sisters Helen Trumble and Ann O'Hara.

Friends may call one half hour prior to the Funeral Mass on Wednesday at the church.

Arrangements are by the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Home, Austintown Chapel.
