BOARDMAN - Prayers will begin Friday, at 10:15 a.m., at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Homes, Boardman-Canfield Chapel, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m., at St. Charles Church for John J. Gavura, who died Saturday evening at St. Elizabeth Boardman Health Center.
John was born July 14, 1931, in Youngstown, the son of Joseph J. and Julianna (Teshlar) Gavura.
He was a graduate of Ursuline High School, where he was the drum major, and attended Youngstown State University.
John began his career as an advisor for the "Investment Club" in the 1970s, which sold stocks to physicians in the area. He later opened a towing service, along with Standard Oil Gas Station, which he owned for many years. John was also owner of Belle View Tavern Bar and Restaurant. His last endeavor, a self-employed salesman, provided John the most enjoyment and success for nearly 30 years. John spent his later years enjoying time with his family, friends and mostly his granddaughter, Isabella, whom he loved dearly.
His wife, the former Elizabeth "Betty Ann" Bulatko, whom he married Feb. 24, 1962, died Aug. 6, 2015.
John is survived by two daughters, Jody (Bob Jesko) of Canfield and Julianna "Julie" (Steve) Bellino of Canfield; brother Joseph J. (Pauline) Gavura; and granddaughter Isabella Bellino.
He was also preceded in death by his parents; and sister Julia Roch.
Family and friends may call Friday, from 9 to 10:15 a.m., at the funeral home.
The family would like to thank the staff at St. Elizabeth Boardman Health Center, Select Specialty Hospital, Dr. David Hoffman, Dr. Gerald Mihok, and Dr. Kathleen Padgitt, for their friendship and outstanding medical care given to their father.
