POLAND - Funeral services will be held Saturday at noon at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Homes, Poland Chapel, for John "Jake" H. Gromley, 87, who died Wednesday afternoon at home, surrounded by his family.
Jake was born Dec. 31, 1928, in Youngstown, the son of Everett H. and Eldal L. (Powell) Gromley.
He was a 1947 graduate of Wilson High School and served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
Jake worked 34 years at LTV Steel as an industrial engineer. As an avid baseball fan, Jake coached little league baseball for many years. He was a 63 year Mason of the Wick Lodge 481.
Jake's wife, Rose (DeSalvo) Gromley, whom he married Sept. 29, 1953, died April 1, 1991. He is survived by his wife, Gloria (Mazzucco) Gromley, whom he married June 13, 1993; two daughters, Diane (Ted) Stroup of Ft. Myers, Fla. and Jodi (Charles) Hornyak of Poland; five sons, Andrew (Suson) Gromley of Riverside, Calif., Rev. Dr. Garry (Debra) Gromley of Normal, Ill., John Mazzucco of Poland, Frank (Loretta) Mazzucco of Springfield, Ohio and Charles Mazzucco of Ashtabula; 13 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
Jake was also preceded in death by his parents and brother Robert Gromley.
Family and friends may call Saturday from 11 a.m. to noon at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that material tributes take the form of donations to Hospice of the Valley, 5190 Market St., Boardman, OH 44512; or Angels for Animals, 4750 W. South Range Road, Canfield, OH 44406.
