STRUTHERS - Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 27, 2016, at 2 p.m. at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Homes, Poland Chapel, 2726 Center Road (Rt. 224) in Poland, for John Steven Hrinak, 99, who passed away at home on Dec. 22, 2016.
John was born in Struthers, on Nov. 29, 1917, to Mary (Gaydos) and Stephen J. Hrinak.
He remained a lifelong resident of Struthers, working and raising his family. After graduating from Struthers High School, Mr. Hrinak attended Youngstown College and earned an Associate Degree for Business Administration in 1936.
Mr. Hrinak was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and served the European Theatre during the Battle of the Buldge with the 18th Corp (Airbourne). He obtained the rank of Master Sergeant. He received the Bronze Star for meritorious achievement while in the European Theatre.
He was along time member of the Struthers VFW Post 3538. After being discharged from active duty at the end of World War II, John returned to Youngstown College on the GI bill and graduated in 1954 with his Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration. He then continued his career in the Business Machine Industry.
Mr. Hrinak retired in 1980, holding the title of Regional Sales Manager for the Master Addresser Company of Minneapolis.
He was an avid golfer, belonging to both the Youngstown District Amateur Gulf Association and the YMCA league for many years. He also served as executive secretary in both leagues.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Stephen and Mary Hrinak; sister Ann Gomachak; and beloved great-grandson, Brandon Bonamase.
Mr. Hrinak is survived by his wife Lucille of 75 years; children Barbara Ann Orenic and Jack (Sandra) Hrinak; grandchildren Michele Bonamase, and Christine Ward; and great-grandchildren Nicolette Bonamse and Brittany Ward.
Calling hours will be held for one hour prior to the service from 1 to 2 p.m. Father Bernard Gaeta of St. Nicholas Church, where John was a lifetime member. Interment will follow at Poland Riverside Cemetery.
The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to all the staff at MVI Hospice and his home healthcare aide, Cindy, for the care and compassion given to John.
