YOUNGSTOWN - Prayers will begin Monday morning at 9:30 a.m. at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Home, Austintown Chapel, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at 10 a.m. at St. Brendan Church for John J. Kastello, 58, who passed away Friday at the home of his sister after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer.
John was born March 30, 1952, in Youngstown, the son of John and Martha Opatich Kastello. John was a lifelong resident of Youngstown, graduating in 1970 from Chaney High School and attended his 40th year class reunion last summer.
He was currently employed as an educational assistant, self contained, MD classes. Prior to Chaney, John worked at The Rayen School and Goodwill Industries. He had a lifelong love for music and played the drums in area bands for many years. He also enjoyed spending time on his computer. John was a longtime member of St. Brendan Church.
John is survived by his sister, Shirley Donald Knight of Girard and three nieces, Amy M. Knight of Cleveland, Kelly A. Bob Colapietro of Girard and Dawn M. Knight of Boston.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Janice Marie.
John?s family would like to give thanks to the staff at Dr. Garg?s office and Dr. Facemyer?s office. Also to the Trumbull branch of Hospice of the Valley for all of their compassion for John during his illness.
