POLAND - Prayers will be held Saturday at 9:30 a.m. at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Homes, Poland Chapel followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at the Holy Family Church for John Kocan, 88, who passed away Wednesday morning at Vibra Hospital.
John was born Jan. 6, 1924, in Munhall, Pa., a son of the late Mike and Anna Lukondi Kocan.
John served in the Army as a paratrooper and received the Purple Heart. He was employed with Republic Steel in the open hearth as a 1st helper for 35 years, retiring in 1987.
He was a former member of St. Theresa Church and the VFW Post No. 4237. John also enjoyed the senior citizen oil painting and writing classes.
John leaves his wife, the former Pearl Ivan; three sons, Stephen Ilona Kocan of Broadview Heights, Richard Kocan of Boardman, and Robert Kocan of Perry; and four grandchildren, Jessica Andy Green, David Nida Kocan, John Robert Kocan and Elizabeth Kocan.
John was also preceded in death by a sister, Helen Maglich; and a brother, Gregory Kocan.
Family and friends may call Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.

The Kocan family would like to give a special thanks to the nurses in the SICU Unit at St. Elizabeth Health Center.
Entombment will take place at Calvary Cemetery.
