POLAND - Funeral services will be held Friday at 1:30 p.m. at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Homes, Poland Chapel, for John Lawrence Kraynak, 92, who died early Tuesday morning at Greenbriar Nursing Home.
John was born Aug. 28, 1922, in Struthers, the son of Joseph and Anna (Kaschak) Kraynak.
He attended Struthers High School and served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II.
John worked as a millwright at Youngstown Sheet and Tube for over 42 years, until retiring in 1983.
He was a member of St. Nicholas Church, the Struthers VFW No. 3538, and several golf leagues in the area. In 1977, John shot a hole-in-one in Hubbard on the 16th hole, and also won two golf championships in 1977 and 1979.
He is survived by his wife, the former Alma Dempesis, whom he married June 1, 1950, and had recently celebrated 65 years of marriage; a daughter, Nancy Jean (Larry) Moritz of Gilbert, Ariz.; a son, Robert John Kraynak of Richmond, Va.; a sister, Delores Suszynaki of Cincinatti; a brother, Joseph (Chris) Kraynak Jr. of Struthers; three grandchildren, Amber Root, Krystle Henderson and Jesse Kraynak; and one great-grandchild.
John was preceded in death by three sisters, Mary Pollock, Sally Stetson and Margaret Kraynak.
Family and friends may call Friday from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
Burial will take place at Poland Riverside Cemetery.
The family has requested that material tributes take the form of donations to Hospice of the Valley, 5190 Market St., Boardman, OH 44512.
