POLAND - Services will be Monday at 9:30 AM at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Home, Poland Chapel, and at 10:00 AM at Holy Family Church for John T. Leone age 83 of Poland who passed away Thursday morning at Sunrise Assisted Living of Poland.
John was born May 18, 1922, in Youngstown the son of Fiorangelo and Vittoria Maddamma Leone.
Mr. Leone was a 1941 graduate of South High School and had served in the Navy during W.W.II. He had worked at the U.S. Steel Corporation for over 18 years, before becoming a mail carrier for the US Postal service where he had worked for over 25 years before retiring in 1985. He was a charter member of Holy Family Church, where he had served as a Lector, and Eucharistic Minister, and was a member of its Senior citizens, and Resurrection choir.
John was an active member of the Poland Knights of Columbus Council # 4471, and the St. Vincent Depaul Society. Mr. Leone was also a member of the VFW, the South High School Alumni Association, and had enjoyed bowling in the Holy Family Bowling League for many years.
John will always be remembered by his family, friends and the many families he delivered mail to for his dressing as a clown on Halloween, playing Santa at Christmas, and for sharing his smile and thousands of smiley face stickers with everyone he came in contact with.
John's wife the former Lauretta Mary Leone whom he married August 26, 1944, died May 11, 2005.
He is survived by three daughters, Mariann C. Leone of Canfield, Florence L. Wyand of Pittsburgh, PA, and Nancy L. Greg Gebhard of Detroit, Michigan, and two grandchildren, Bartholomew Wyand of London England, and Daniel Wyand of Pittsburgh, PA.
Besides his wife he was preceded in death by two brothers, Andy and Michael Leone, and two sisters Concetta Scappucci, and Susan Rodriquez.
Friends may call from 4 to 7 PM Saturday and Sunday at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Home, Poland Chapel.
The family has requested that material tributes take the form of donations to the Second Harvest Food Bank.
