AUSTINTOWN - Funeral services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Homes, Austintown Chapel for John "Jack" R. Mayesky, 85, who passed away Monday evening at Briarfield Manor.
Jack was born Oct. 16, 1928, in Youngstown, a daughter of the late Joseph E. and Mary N. (Sokol) Mayesky.
Jack was a 1947 graduate of South High School. He served with the U.S. Army in the 10th Signal Corps during the Korean War from 1951 to 1953. He was employed with General Fireproofing for 16 years and U.S. Postal Service for 27 years, retiring in 1989. He loved raising his children and taking them to sports and band events with his wife, Nona.
His wife, the former Nona J. Kreder, whom he married Sept. 13, 1958, passed away July 27, 2008.
Jack leaves his two daughters, Cheryl A. (Joseph) Banjak of Liberty and Melanie M. Mayesky of Austintown; two sons, Scott (Judie) Mayesky of Austintown and Lenard (Janeane) Mayesky of Columbus; four grandchildren Christopher Lund, Deanna Banjak, Amanda Puskar, and Patrice Rider; eight grandchildren, Gabriella Rider, Xzavier Wiseman, Kylie Banjak, Arianna Perry, Avery Banjak, Ella Morris, Ethan Morris, and Kaleigh Puskar; two sisters, Margaret "Margie" Foutz and Maryann (Jim) Jones, both of Poland; and a brother, Jerry (Terry) Mayesky of Columbus.
Jack was also preceded in death by a son, Gary Mayesky in 2008; three sisters, Rita Deiley, Joan Martinez, Delores Irwin; and a brother, Joseph Mayesky.
Family and friend may call Thursday from 5 to 8 p.m. and Friday from 10 to 11 a.m. at the funeral home.
Burial will take place at Brunstetter Cemetery.
