BOARDMAN - There will be service Monday at 8:45 a.m. at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Home, Boardman-Canfield Chapel, and at 9:30 a.m. at the Our Lady of Mount Carmel for John A. Monroe, 87, who passed away peacefully Wednesday afternoon at Forum Health Northside Medical Center.
John was born Sept. 16, 1919 in Youngstown, a son of Dominic and Alvina Zarlenga Monroe.
A 1939 graduate of East High School, he was a WWII veteran and served as a member of the 112th Calvary E Troop Division Pacific Theatre. After the war,
John worked in the Bessemer department of Ohio Steel Works. He attended Youngstown College and also attended the New Castle School of Trade. He concluded his career as assistant engineer of the Youngstown Water Department, retiring in 1985. He was a former member of the Sons of Italy Club and a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church.
John leaves his beloved wife of 58 years, the former Ann T. Vecchione, whom he married Aug. 27, 1949; his loving children, Dominic J. Linda Monroe of Boardman, Janet M. Chuck Bieterman of Rochester Hills, Mich., John A.Jill Monroe Jr. of Austintown and Anthony J. ³Bo² Helen Monroe of Boardman; a sister, Virginia ³DeeDee² Monroe of Youngstown; and eight wonderful grandchildren, Linda A. Ryan Capezio, John E. Monroe, Caren A. Bieterman, Sarah A. Monroe, Jack C. Bieterman, Lauren R. Monroe, Katie J. Monroe and Alyse N. Monroe.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Mary Yacobony and
Emma Gatti.
