John Palikaras

August 17, 1923 — October 13, 2008

POLAND ­ Funeral services will be held Thursday at 11:15 a.m. at
Higgins-Reardon Funeral Home, Poland Chapel and at noon at St. John Greek Orthodox Church in Boardman for John Palikaras, 85, a resident of Poland since 1956, passed away Oct. 13, 2008.

John was born in Youngstown on Aug. 17, 1923, the son of Martha and George Palikaras.

He graduated from East High School class of June 1941, and retired from LTV Steel, formerly Republic Steel, after 32 years as a pipefitter at the Youngstown District Coke Works. He was active in WWII in the 8th Army Air Corp, stationed in Sudbury,
England. He served in the 486th Bomb Group in the 832nd Squadron as an Armor Gunner, with the rank of Corporal. His honors include the Air Medal with four bronze clusters, sharp shooter medal and good conduct medal. He was a
member of St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church in Youngstown.

John will be greatly missed by his family and friends. He is survived by his daughter Georgia and her husband, Frank MacMaster of Durham, N.C.; his son,
John Phillip, his wife Amy and two precious grandchildren, Zachary and Camryn of Poland; his cousin, Attorney Joseph E. Vouros, who was raised by
John¹s parents and grew up together since toddlers, and have always referred to each other as brothers; two brothers-in-law and their wives, Phil and Irene Skeliski of New Castle, Pa. and Bill and Margie Skeliski of
Austintown; five nieces, Beverly Dale Mikolak of Forida, Debbie Mark Spaner of Canton, Arlene Skeliski of Youngstown, Judy Dennis Cunningham of
Knoxville, Tenn. and Jenny Rossi of Youngstown; nephew, Steven Heather Skeliski of Youngstown; great-nieces, Whitney, Marissa and Katie; and great-nephews, Ethan and Dennis Joseph.

John was preceded in death by his parents and wife, Cecelia Skeliski. Cecelia passed away on their 25th wedding anniversary, Sept. 8, 1981. He
also was preceded in death by two sisters-in-law, Helen Valsi and Stella Skeliski; and brother-in-law, Joe Valsi.

Family and friends may call today from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Home, Poland Chapel.
