POLAND - A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at the Holy Family Church for John "Jack" L. Pompoco Sr., 86, who passed away Tuesday, May 1, 2018, at Assumption Village.
Jack was born April 11, 1932, in Youngstown, a son of the late Andrew L. and Agnes E. (Toomey) Pompoco.
Jack was a 1950 graduate of Ursuline High School. He retired as director of engineering and maintenance from St. Elizabeth Medical Center in 1994.
Jack was a member of the Holy Family Church. He served on the board of the Assumption Village Nursing Home. Also served on the board of Villa Maria Apartments and several building committees. He was a member of the Mahoning County Building Commission for the County Justice Center. He was an ardent Notre Dame and Browns fan and an avid golfer.
Jack married his high school sweetheart, the former Nancy A. Cassidy, on Sept. 2, 1950. Nancy was Jack's bride for 57 years, passing away on Feb. 14, 2007.
He is survived by two sons, John L. (Kathy) Pompoco Jr. of Cortland and William A. Pompoco of Poland; three daughters, Susan A. (Ronald) Warga of Youngstown, Debbie M. Pompoco of Youngstown, and Mary Jo (Thomas) George of Boardman; a brother, James F. Pompoco of Canfield; seven grandchildren, Nikki, Gina, Ronnie, Jack III, Kristina, Shane, and Amanda; and eight great-grandchildren, Kailee, Cameron, Madison, Ella, Avery, Ava, Brady, and Barrett.
Jack was also preceded in death by a sister, Mary Beth Bindas.
Family and friends may call Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Homes, Poland Chapel and Friday from 10 to 10:45 a.m. at the Holy Family Church. Entombment will take place at Calvary Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, material tributes may take the form of donations to Hospice of the Valley, 5190 Market St., Youngstown, OH 44512.
