NILES - Services will be today at 2 p.m. at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Home, Austintown Chapel for John E. Scherl, who passed away on Tuesday, May 17, at St. Elizabeth Health Center after a short illness.
During his final days, he enjoyed visits with several of his long time friends.
He is survived by his friends, Tom Kurtz, Joan Knisely, Sylvia Ostapiak and Karen Woodcock, with whom he made his home and his beloved dogs, Baby and Coco.
He was born in Youngstown on May 22, 1947, and was the son of John Adam Scherl and Wilma Danko Scherl, who preceded him in death.
As a life long residence of the greater Youngstown area, he attended and graduated from Immaculate Heart of Mary Elementary School, Fitch High School in 1965 and the Youngstown State University in 1970, where he received a B.S. in Business Administration.
He later worked at the B & O Railroad. Retired, he enjoyed attending and participating in auctions and major estate sales over the years.
He will be laid to rest at Calvary Cemetery.
