AUSTINTOWN - A prayer service will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Home, Austintown Chapel followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. at St. Brendan Church, Youngstown, for Mr. John R. "Jay" Slipski Sr., 65, who died peacefully Monday evening surrounded by his family at St. Elizabeth Health Center, Youngstown.
He was born March 16, 1949, a son of John Slipski and Margaret Seman Slipski Reno.
John was a 1967 Chaney High School graduate and retired from Vinylume of Austintown as a Quality Controller. He loved fishing and sitting in his backyard with his two dogs, Bailey and Chloe, but his greatest love was his family, especially his grandchildren, who called him GaGa.
John leaves his wife, the former Joan McCollum; his daughter, Jessica (John) Sorvillo of Austintown; his son, John (Cassandra) Slipski Jr. of Austintown; two sisters, Michelle (Erwin) Boone of Texas and Kathy Kalis of Austintown; two brothers, Steven Reno of Austintown and Ronald (Gerry) Slipski of Canfield; and three grandchildren, Sullivan and Sawyer Sorvillo and Makenna Slipski.
Friends may call Thursday from 5 to 8 p.m. and Friday from 9 to 10 a.m. at the funeral home.
