POLAND - A funeral Liturgy will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at St. John's Orthodox Church in Campbell for John Zelina, 89, who passed away Sunday evening at Valley Care Health System Northside.
John was born July 16, 1922, in Campbell, a son of the late Samuel and Helen Barbus Zelina.
John was a 1940 graduate of Campbell Memorial High School. He served in the Army during World War II. He was a turn foreman for Youngstown Sheet and Tube until their closing and then became supervisor for Mahoning Bank.
He was a member of St. John's Orthodox Church and served as choir director and counsel president. He was also ordained as a sub-deacon. He was also a member of the St. John's "O" Club, the Orthodox Men's Society and the Mahoning Bank Bowling League.
John leaves his wife, the former Olga Kucheruk, whom he married June 5, 1948; four daughters, Barbara John Matusiak of Glen Ellyn, Ill., Debbie Ramiro Albarran of North Venus, Fla., Laura Ron Strollo of Columbus, and Maureen John Koval of Poland; eight grandchildren, Joseph, Juliana, Anthony, John, Lisa, David, Bryan and Kevin; five great-grandchildren; and a sister-in-law, Laura Glen Zinz of Canfield.
John was also preceded in death by four brothers, Samuel, George, Victor, and Rudy Zelina and a sister, Emily Vasilchek.
Family and friends may call Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. and Saturday from 10 to 10:45 a.m. at St. John's Orthodox Church, where a Panikhida Service will be held Friday at 6:30 p.m.
Burial will take place at Poland Riverside Cemetery with full military honors.
