AUSTINTOWN - A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday morning at 10 a.m. at St. Columba Cathedral for Joseph J. Csernik Sr., 92, who died early Monday morning at Humility House.
Joseph was born Dec. 14, 1924, in Youngstown, the son of Stephen F. and Helen Kluchar Csernik.
After attending Woodrow Wilson High School, he had worked at General Extrusions as a head stretcher in its aluminum manufacturing department for over 35 years before retiring in 1986. He was a longtime member of St. Columba Cathedral Parish.
His wife, the former Jean F. Humphrey, whom he married June 2, 1956, preceded him in death Aug. 24, 1981.
He is survived by two daughters, Patricia A. Csernik- Wellman of Hudson, Fla., Linda S. (James Jr.) Hanek of Austintown; two sons, Joseph J. (Maria) Csernik Jr. of Herndon, Va., Michael S. (Connie) Csernik of Louisville, Ken.; two sisters, Helen Hefferon and Mary Dina, both of Boardman; a sister-in-law, Mary Csernik; six grandchildren, James (Nancy) Hanek III, Cathy Hanek, Joseph (Becky) Csernik, Stephen (Lauren) Csernik, Larry Csernik and Mark Csernik; and four great-grandchildren, Andrew and Lauren Hanek, Joseph Csernik III, and Natalie Sinnett.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Robert and Stephen F. Csernik.
Friends may call from 9 to 9:45 a.m., Saturday morning at St. Columba Cathedral.
Joseph's family would like to thank all of his caregivers and have requested that material tributes take the form of donations to Smile Force at Humility House in care of Linda to pay tribute to the compassionate care that Joseph received there.
