Youngstown - Mr. Joseph Damas, who passed away Sunday evening, will be returning to his homeland of Hawaii to be laid to rest.
Mr. Damas was born August 25, 1913 in Waialua, Hawaii the son of Manuel and Mary Ingracia Damas. He was employed with the American President Steamship Lines, retiring in 1978 after 40 years of service. He served his country with the United States Coast Guard and the Merchant Marines. Mr. Damas was a master carpenter and Superintendant of the A.P.L. He enjoyed travelling, carpentry, playing cards, dancing, and singing.
His wife, the former Florence Hanson, passed February 12, 2004. He leaves 2 daughters, Pearl Dewey Damas and Evangeline Walter Damas Baust, grandchildren, Walter Silvia Baust Jr., Margaret Frances Best, and Deborah Lynn John Pechatsko, great-grandchildren, John Walter and Noah Joe Pechatsko, Jonathan Baust, Floyd Tucci Sims, and Mary Elizabeth Burkett, a sister, Marge, and 2 brothers, Roy and Louis, all of Hawaii.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter Sheila Damas, and brothers and sisters, Mac, Leutina, Ida, John, and Evangeline.
There will be no visitation. Arrangements for Mr. Damas' return home are being handled by Higgins-Reardon Funeral Home, Austintown Chapel.
