COLUMBIANA Joseph Nicklas Janeczko, 64, of Arrowhead Bay Condominiums, formerly of Creston Drive in Boardman, died Sunday afternoon of respiratory
failure with his daughter, Laura, and his son, Joe, at his side at Salem Community Hospital.
Joseph Janeczko was born in Youngstown July 20, 1941, the son of the late Joseph Frank Janeczko and Catherine Brajack Janeczko, and his stepfather, the late Sam Calabrette.
He attended Wilson High School and received an honorable discharge from the U.S. Army at the rank of SP4 in 1965. Joe was one of the first in the area hired at the General Motors Plant in Lordstown.
He retired after 32 years in 1997. Joe enjoyed the stock market
and was always ready to discuss investing with his fellow workers.
On Nov. 6, 1971, Joe married Linda Ann Mitchell, the daughter of the late Lois and Kenneth Mitchell of Poland. They had two children, Laura Ann and Joseph K. Janeczko.
His wife, Linda was the love of his life. When Linda was diagnosed with breast cancer, Joe retired from General Motors to spend more time with his family, travel and care for Linda who died Aug. 17, 2001.
Joe golfed in the Vagabond League and in 1982 had a hole-in-one at
Tam-O-Shanter. He was an avid skier and Youngstown State University football fan. He was a member of the Mahoning Valley Corvette Club and could be found
during warm weather driving his red 2000 Corvette Convertible. He served for many years on the board of directors of the homeowners association at Arrowhead Bay.
Joe is survived by his daughter, Laura Ann Forrest Pruett of Littleton, Colo. and son, Joseph K. Janeczko of Las Vegas. He adored his grandchildren, Cameron Joseph and Sydney Linda Pruett and made frequent trips to Colorado
to see them.
His leaves his sister, Audrey Hurst and her children, Christine, Douglas and Colleen of Austintown; his brothers and sisters-in-law, Kathy and John Miller of Boardman, Alan and Sandy Mitchell of
Boardman, Janet and Joseph Vari of Youngstown, Christine and Rich Yash of Poland, Jim Mitchell of
Boardman, Jeff Mitchell of Youngstown and Beth and Dr. Michael Mathis of Delphi, Ind.; his many nieces and nephews, Kristina Vari and fiance Tad
Stanford of Orlando, Fla., Joe Vari of Virginia, Nathan Miller of Boardman, Zachary and Tyler Miller of Orlando, Kendra and Ben Stevens of Laguna Niguel, Calif., Heather Mitchell of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., Casey Yash of Lake Mary, Fla., Christa Yash of Poland and Michael Mathis of Delphi.
A service will be at 10:30 a.m. today, June 28, at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Home, Poland Chapel, where friends may call from 10 to 10:30 a.m.
The family requests tributes be made to Hospice of the Valley or the Youngstown State University Athletic Fund.
