YOUNGSTOWN There will be services Thursday at 9:30 a.m. at the
Higgins-Reardon Funeral Home, Austintown Chapel, and at 10 a.m. at St. Brendan Church for Joseph R. Orwell, 95, who passed away Sunday afternoon at St. Elizabeth Health Center.
Joseph was born Nov. 16, 1911 in Youngstown, a son of Gus and Rose Orwell.
He attended East High School and served in the U.S. Navy during WWII. He worked for Truscon LTV Steel as a packer for 36 years, retiring in 1974.
He was a member of St. Brendan Church. He enjoyed fishing. His greatest love was for family especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
His wife, the former Alberta Schrank, whom he married Sept. 7, 1937, passed
away Oct. 8, 1976.
He is survived by a daughter, Patty John Kikta of Austintown; a sister, Mary Lou Patterson of North Lima; five grandchildren, Lisa James Briganti, John Kikta, Craig Kikta, Jason Tracy Orwell and Ric Chrissy Orwell; and five great-grandchildren, Nicholas Briganti, Connor Briganti, Peter
Briganti, Jared Orwell and Kaitlyn Orwell, and his sixth great-grandchild is expected in July.
Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; an infant
daughter; a son, Robert Orwell; a sister, Rose Helman; and three brothers, Gus, Mike and John Orwell.
Friends may call Wednesday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
