A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, April 17, at 1 p.m. at St. Brendan’s Church, for Joseph T. Quinn who died Saturday morning at Assumption Village.
Joseph was born January 24, 1921 in Youngstown, Ohio, a son of Frank and Anna (Ward) Quinn.
He was a graduate of Rayen High School. Upon graduation, he served as a Sergeant in the United States Army Air Corps during World War II.
He made his career as a Youngstown Fireman, rising to the rank of Assistant Fire Chief, serving the Youngstown area for 31 years. Part of his duties that he enjoyed the most was teaching and running the fire fighter training cadet school for 10 years.
Joseph was a very accomplished golfer. As a senior in high school, he lead the Rayen Golf Team to the state finals. He won several golf club championships in Youngstown, including his home golf course, Henry Stambaugh Municipal Golf Course.
He was an avid Ohio State football and Cincinnati Bengals fan.
Joseph is survived by his son, James Quinn, of Littleton, Colorado; and four grandchildren, Barbara and Robert Quinn of California and Julie and Jacob Larson of Youngstown.
Joseph’s wife, Joanne (Coleman) Quinn, whom he married November 3, 1943, preceded him in death on December 13, 2008. Also preceding him in death were his parents; his daughter, Patricia Larson, of Mineral Ridge, Ohio; and his son, Thomas Quinn.
Family and friends may attend calling hours Wednesday morning prior to Mass from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Homes, Austintown Chapel, 4303 Mahoning Ave.
