CANFIELD - A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday at 11 a.m. at St. Michael Church in Canfield, for Joyce M. Johnson, 84, who died Friday evening at Assumption Village Nursing Home.

Joyce was born May 4, 1932, in Youngstown, the daughter of Cecil C. and Lucille C. (Cavanaugh) Macy.

She was a graduate of Ursuline High School and worked at Truscon Steel for many years. Joyce dedicated her life to her family once she had children. Later, she worked as a church secretary at St. Luke Church and St. Nicholas Church. Joyce and her husband were charter members of St. Luke Church, past president of the Altar and Rosary Society, and The National Council for Catholic Women. Together; she and her husband ran the St. Luke Church festival for many years. She was an avid writer and enjoyed creating poetry and short stories for Reader's Digest.

Joyce is survived by her husband, James Johnson, whom she married July 5, 1952; two daughters, Mary Beth (Larry) Sammartino of Dublin and Cathleen Johnson of Boardman; three sons, Christopher (Michelle) of Windham, Jeffrey P. Johnson of Boardman and Michael (Linda) Johnson of Youngstown; nine grandchildren, Lara (Jeremy) Vainavicz, Emily Johnson, Thomas Johnson (Megan Morgan), Jeffrey (Kim) Johnson II, Melissa Dill (Fred Mootz), Renee (Chris) LaBelle, Adam (Colleen) Smith, Ryan Smith (Whitney Dewel) and Matthew Johnson; and 12 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and an infant daughter, Mary Catherine.

Family and friends may call on Tuesday from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m. at the church.

The family has requested material tributes take the form of donations to Ursuline High School.
