Julie Ann Kennedy

March 19, 1930 — August 5, 2024

BOARDMAN — Julie Ann Kennedy, 94, died peacefully, Monday, Aug. 5, 2024, at The Inn at Christine Valley, in the presence of her family. 

Born in Youngstown, March 19, 1930, she is the daughter of the late Alex and Magda Nanosky Strilbycki. 

Julie was a graduate of Chaney High School. She not only excelled in her education but also remained deeply involved in the district for many years. Julie dedicated her time to fundraising and volunteering, embodying the school’s motto, “Once a Cowboy, always a Cowboy.” Her commitment to education and giving back to her community never wavered.

Julie’s list of accomplishments is nothing short of remarkable. She was a member of the Junior Chamber of Commerce, demonstrating her passion for community involvement. Additionally, she served on the International Institute of Park Board of Youngstown for 23 years without ever missing a meeting. Julie was also an integral part of the building committee of Youngstown Metropolitan Housing Authority, showing her dedication to improving housing for all community members. Furthermore, she was a proud member of the Women’s Winter Association and 18 Holers Golf League at Tippecanoe Country Club. She also enjoyed playing cards, especially on Monday and Thursday nights for bridge club and mahjong. 

In addition to her illustrious career and community service work, Julie cherished time spent with her family and friends. She is survived by her brother-in-law, Austin Kennedy of Lake Milton; nieces, Karen (Richard) Bobcheck of Solon, Kathryn (Wesley Cohen) Cline of Durham, North Carolina; nephews, Dr. David (Kathleen) Kennedy of Canfield, Austin Kennedy Jr. and Patrick Kennedy of Youngstown; as well as many great-nieces and great-nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jerome “Mike” Kennedy; sisters, Kathryn Cline and Helen Horak; and brother, Commander Nick Strilbycki. 

A private service was held for family.The family wants to sincerely thank the Jim Demedovich family for the loving daily support they gave Julie which allowed her to remain in her home that she loved. Julie was blessed with the Demedovich family not by blood, but by God. Also, special thanks to nephew Dr. David and Kathleen Kennedy for all their care and compassion they gave to Julie. 

Memorial tributes may take the form of donations to Animal Charity of Ohio.
