June Houk Megela
BOARDMAN-Services will be at Noon Wednesday at St. Charles Church for June Houk Megela age 85 of Boardman who passed away early Monday morning at St. Mary's Alzheimer Care Center after an eight year battle with Alzheimers. June was born November 20, 1921 in Zanesville, Ohio, the daughter of Robert E. and Thelma D.J. Edelman Houk, coming to this area as a child. As her part of the "Rosie the Riveter" movement during W.W.II, she worked as a welder at Truscon Steel. She later worked as a clerk and assistant buyer at the Strouss Department Store in its cosmetic department, at Allen Drug, and Grey Drug, did cleaning for Homestead Restoration, and most recently worked at St. Charles Church assisting with kitchen cleaning and church maintenance.
She has been a proud member of St. Charles Church for over 56 years and had attended mass daily until the time of her illness. She was an active member of its R.C.I.A. program, its ladies guild, bible study, hospitality committee, and its food pantry. June was a dedicated mall walker at the Southern Park Mall, where she was named a member of the 1500 mile club.
June is survived by her daughter Donna M. Bernie Tunno of Canfield, a son Jack E. Marianne Megela of Naples, FLA, two sisters; Arlene Habib of Poland, and Beverly Siman of Boardman, a brother Robert Houk of Colorado, four grandchildren, Shawn Megela of Canton, Mary Frances Megela of Hawaii, Marc Tina Tunno of Austintown, and Christopher Tunno of Florida, two great-grandchildren; Dominic and Julia Tunno.
Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Michael Megela, a brother, Milan, and two sisters, Nedra Szanyi and Mary Kirton.
Friends may call from 10:00 AM to 11:45 AM Wednesday at St. Charles Church.
The family has requested that material tributes take the form of donations to St. Charles Church in June's memory.
