Karen Lastic

YOUNGSTOWN — Karen Jean Lastic, 70, died peacefully Thursday, July 29, 2021, at University Hospital, surrounded by her family.

Karen was born March 1, 1951, in Youngstown, the daughter of Rocco Anthony and Margaret Nicola Palermo.

She was a graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School and worked as a cake decorator at Giant Eagle for more than 20 years.

In her spare time, Karen enjoyed cooking, baking, playing video games, and going to casinos. Most of all, she loved the time she spent with her family. That time will forever be cherished by her family.

Karen is survived by her husband, Vernon Lastic, whom she married Jan. 27, 1973; daughter, Heather (Nickolas) Wodogaza of Austintown; son, Joseph Rocco Lastic of Youngstown; and brother, Gary (Michelle) Palermo of Canfield.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Joseph Palermo.

A private funeral service was held for the family.

Karen’s family would like to thank the staff at University Hospital’s Neuro ICU and give a very special thank-you to Dr. Komal Sawlani, Dr. Daniel Benson, Jeff and Elaine for all their dedication, compassion and support.
