AUSTINTOWN - Funeral services will be held on Friday at noon at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Homes, Austintown Chapel, officiated by Msgr. Kenneth Miller, for Kathleen Mary Kurtz, 89, who passed away peacefully Monday morning.
Kathleen "Kay" was born March 27, 1927, in Youngstown, the daughter of Charles T. Foley Sr and Margaret McGuire Foley.
She was a beloved mother and wife, devoting her life to her family, friends, and employers. Kay lived her life, "Do unto others" and for others. Never expecting anything in return.
Kay was a 1945 graduate of Chaney High School.
She began her career initially at the Ohio Bell Telephone Company immediately after high school. Later she joined the salesforce of Steiner's Draperies in the 1950s, followed by a number of years as a receptionist with Loblaw's Foods. She retired from the business office of Hynes Industries.
During her lifetime, Kay attended St. Brendans and the Immaculate Heart of Mary churches. She worked with the Altar and Rosary Society, as well.
Kay was an avid reader, card player, seamstress and meticulous homemaker.
She and her late husband were fond of big band music. They joined friends throughout the region, dancing to the music of that era and particularly frequented the Idora Park Ballroom.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas F. Kurtz Sr., whom she married May 13, 1947; her parent; her brother, Charles Thomas Foley; and daughter-in law Judith Parker Kurtz.
Surviving are two sons, Thomas F. Kurtz Jr. of Longmont, Colo. and David E. Kurtz of Austintown; five grandchildren, Eric (Lauren) Kurtz of Longmont, Christopher (Ann) Kurtz of Denver, Sarah Kurtz of Nashville, Tenn., James (Kristin) Ferguson of Struthers and Kerri Ferguson of Austintown; eight great-grandchildren; a sister, Elizabeth Dolak of New Middletown; a brother, John (Arlene) Edward Foley of North Jackson; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Family and friends may call on Friday from 11 a.m. to the time of the service at the funeral home.
Interment will occur at the family plot at Calvary Cemetery.
