Kathleen Mcginnis

POLAND - Prayers will be held Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Home, Poland Chapel followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at the Holy Family Church for Kathleen Irene McGinnis, 65, who passed away Friday, June 11, 2010, at Beeghly Oaks Center after a lengthy illness.

Kathy was born April 15, 1945, in Fort Bragg, N.C., the daughter of James E. and Catherine I. Cronk McGinnis.

After graduating from Ursuline High School, she entered the convent of the Oblate Sisters of the Sacred Heart as Sr. Mary Jude. She was a nun for 18 years. She taught at many parochial schools in the dioceses. Kathy attended Youngstown Sate University and earned her Bachelors Degree in Education and then received her Masters degree from Duquesne University. She was a member of the Holy Family Church and was a teacher at the Holy Family School from 1982 until the present time.

Kathy?s interests included books, travel, and teaching. She will be remembered as a kind, loyal, and beautiful woman. One who chose to go unnoticed, but who was, in fact, an extremely notable force in the lives of her family, friends and students.

Kathy leaves her mother, Catherine I. McGinnis of Youngstown; her sisters, Barbara Shelby Cash of Poland and Patricia Richard Milheim of Zanesville; her brothers, James B. McGinnis of Youngstown, John E. McGinnis of Austintown and Robert M. Connie McGinnis of New Wilmington. Kathy loved and enjoyed her nieces, Lanore Matt Jones, Lisa Zan Saavedra, Elizabeth Cash, Molly Mike Retzler, Grace McGinnis, Anna McGinnis, and Jacquline McGinnis and her nephews, Michael Vavrinak, James Denise Vavrinak, Shelby Terri Cash, Ron Amy Vavrinak, Brian McGinnis, Patrick McGinnis and Ian Milheim. Kathy also leaves 19 great-nieces and nephews, plus a dearly loved family of aunts, an uncle and many cousins.

Kathy was preceded in death by her father, James E. McGinnis in 2008.

Family and friends may call Monday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Material tributes may take the form of donations to the Oblate Sisters of the Sacred Heart, 50 Warner Road, Hubbard, OH 44425.

Burial will take place at Calvary Cemetery.
