AUSTINTOWN – A prayer service will be held on Thursday at 9:15 a.m. at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Home, Austintown Chapel followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph Church in Austintown for Mrs. Kathleen A. O’Connor, 83, who died Sunday morning at Antonine Village in North Jackson.

Kathleen was born Feb. 21, 1935, in Girard, a daughter of John and Frances Eagan Carey.

She was a 1953 graduate of Girard High School and had worked at RTI, formerly RMI, in the sales department for over 30 years.

Kathleen was a member of the church, its Ladies Guild and the Niles Community Center. She enjoyed camping and traveling but her greatest enjoyment was spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.

Kathleen was married to Thomas D. O’Connor, whom she married June 30,1962 and who died Sept. 11, 1992.

She leaves two daughters, Catherine (Jay) Layshock of Canfield and Mary Frances (Ray Gordon) O’Connor of Portland, Ore.; a son, Thomas (Michelle) O’Connor Jr. of Columbus; nine grandchildren, Jake (Emily) Layshock, Peter, Michael and Emma Layshock, Jonathan Lisbon, Jason and Jessica O’Connor and Faye and Buck Gordon; two great-grandchildren Jake and Tommy Layshock; and sister-in-law Nancy Carey of Austintown.

Kathleen was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Thomas; and seven sisters, Mary Rose and Dolores Carey, Florence Carson, Joan Tocorzic, Irene Ferron, Frances Raub and Miriam Constantino and Jack Carey.

Friends may call Wednesday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
