POLAND Prayers will begin on Saturday morning at 9:30 a.m. at the
Higgins-Reardon Funeral Homes, Poland Chapel followed by a Mass of Christian
Burial at 10 a.m. at the Holy Family Church for Kathleen A. Platz, 55, who passed away Tuesday evening at her home surrounded by family and
friends after a courageous battle with melanoma.
Kathleen was born on April 21, 1957, in Youngstown, a daughter of Thomas and
Margaret ONeil McMahon.
Kathy graduated from Austintown Fitch High School in 1975. She began her
career as an executive secretary for the DeBartolo Corporation and later
worked for S.M.E. in Bessemer, Pa. until taking time to raise her family.
She was a member of the Holy Family Church, its Womens Renewal and had
taught CCD.
Kathy enjoyed golfing and was fortunate enough to have had two holes in one
over the years. She was a member of the GHY Golf League at Pine Lakes Golf
Course and Partees Golf League at Reserve Run Golf Course.
Kathleen is survived by her husband, Stephen E.; a daughter, Stacey, at
home; two sons, Stephen H. of Phoenix and Michael T. of Cincinnati; two
sisters, Peggy McMahon of Austintown and Ann John Ostrowski of Austintown;
three brothers, Thomas P. Jr. of Youngstown, Dennis of Austintown and
Michael Terri Storey of Boardman; and a sister-in-law, Sue McMahon of Austintown.
Besides her parents, Kathleen was preceded in death by her brother, William;
and mother-in-law, Jean B. Platz.
Family and friends may call Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Higgins-Reardon
Funeral Homes, Poland Chapel.
The Platz family has requested that material tributes take the form of
donations to the Melanoma Research Foundation, P.O. Box 759329, Baltimore,
MD 21275, in Kathy¹s memory or to Hospice of the Valley, 5190 Market St. Youngstown, OH 44512.
