Kathryn Conroy

CANFIELD - Private services will be held at a later date for Kathryn Evelyn (Mentges) Conroy, 91, who died Saturday, June 6, 2015, at Austintwoods Nursing Home.

Kathryn was born Dec. 20, 1923, in Youngstown, the daughter of Amil and Lillian (Shannon) Mentges.

She was a 1942 graduate of Chaney High School and was a homemaker, who dedicated her life to her family. Kathryn was the former owner of Sherwood Motel in Austintown.

Kathryn was a charter member of St. Christine Church, where she was previously very active. She spent many years vacationing in Florida during the winter months, which she enjoyed with her husband.

Kathryn's husband, Richard J. Conroy, whom she married April 22, 1944, died Sept. 26, 2007.

She is survived by her daughter, Marianne (Orrin Wang) Conroy of Washington, D.C.; four sons, Richard T. (Betty) Conroy of Mineral Ridge, Thomas J. (LaDene) Conroy of Mt. Pleasnt, S.C., William P. (Debra) Conroy of Niles, and Jospeh P. (Carolyn) Conroy of Canfield; sister Patricia Moylan of Austintown; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Kathryn was also preceded in death by her parents and brother Emil Mentges.

Per her wishes, there will be no calling hours.

The family would like to thank the staff at Austinwoods Nursing Home and Crossroads Hospice for their care and compassion given to Kathryn.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that material tributes take the form of donations to the Austinwoods Activity Fund, 4780 Kirk Road, Austintown, OH 44515; or to St. Vincent DePaul at St. Christine Church, 3165 S. Schenley Ave., Youngstown, OH 44511.
