Austintown- A memorial service will be held 6PM Friday in the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Home, Austintown Chapel for Mr. Leland "Pete" F. Hirst, Age 95, of Austintown, who died Tuesday morning at his home.
Leland was born November 29, 1913 in Youngstown to the late Harry and Ellen McKee Hirst, Sr.
Mr. Hirst was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church.
He was a South High Graduate. A WWII veteran of the U.S. Army 4th. Armored Division; serving in Germany, Italy, & France campaignes. Pete was proud that he served under General Patton in the Normandy Invasion and the Battle of the Buldge. Leland recieved his 32nd. degree in the Western Star Lodge #21 F&AM, where he was a member for over 50 years.
Mr. Hirst retired in 1980 after 40 years of service from U.S. Steel where he was a Tool and Die Machinest. He also worked at General Motors for three years and Greenwood Chevrolet with more than 27 years of service.
Besides his parents, he is preceded in death by his sister and brother-in-law Thelma and Nolan Byers, a brother Harry E. Hirst, Jr., and a brother-in-law Warren Shriver.
He is survived by his wife, the former Elizabeth "Betty" J. Adams of Austintown, his daughter, Cynthia Hirst-Monsour of Atlanta, three grandsons, Michael M. Monsour of Houston, Jonathan G. and David M. Monsour both of Atlanta; seven great grandchildren, Justin C. Monsour, Taylor M. Monsour, Sean M. Monsour, Macie M. Monsour, Carlie M. Monsour, Maddox R. Monsour and Olivia M. Monsour; a sister-in-law Wilma Shriver of Akron and brother-in-law Norman Adams of New Jersey.
Freinds may call one hour prior to services at the funeral home 5-6PM.
