Leo Morley

Youngstown . . . . Services will be held at 10:30 AM Monday at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Home, Austintown Chapel and a Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 AM in St. Brendan's Church, Youngstown for Judge Leo P. Morley age 80 of Youngstown who died Thursday evening in Humility House.

Judge Morley was born March 4, 1926 in Youngstown a son of Joseph J. and Mary C. Ryan Morley.

He was a 1944 graduate of Ursuline High School and joined the U.S. Army the same year . In WWII , he was a member of C Company 38th Armored Infantry 7th Armored Division, fighting in the Battle of the Bulge and the Ruhr encirclement.He was decorated with three battle stars , the Combat Infantry Badge and six service medals. After the war he attended Kent State University and graduated in 1950. In 1951 , Judge Morley served his country again during the Korean War as a First Lieutenant with the 245th Tank Battalion 45th Infantry Division , receiving The Purple Heart, two Bronze stars, The Republic of Korea Decoration and Citation and five service medals. He then received his Law degree from the Western Reserve University and entered the practice of law. He began his career in the Probate court where he was a Deputy, Chief Deputy and General Referee, then served as an Assistant Law Director for the City of Youngstown. In 1969, Judge Morley was elected to the Youngstown Municipal Court. In 1985 he became Probate Judge of Mahoning County a position in which he served until his retirement in 1997. He was a hearing officer with the Ohio Court of Claims for several years after retiring. Judge Morley had been Treasurer, Secretary, 1st and 2nd Vice President and President of the Ohio Association of Probate Court Judges.

Judge Morley was a member of the church where he was a mass commentator, member of A.O.H and was awarded in 1972 "Irishman of the Year", a member of the Gaelic Society, Catholic War Veterans, disabled American veterans, Arco Club, Saxon Club, Eagles Aerie #3298 and the Mahoning County Bar Association.
In 1994 Mill Creek Park Named the Morley Pavilion after him.

Judge Morley was married to Lucy J. Miller on Sept. 9, 1950 and she died July 20, 2005.

He leaves a daughter Mary Rose Morley of Lake Milton: a son Attorney Michael P. Roberta Morley of Medina; a sister Margaret Sabol and two grandsons Patrick Joseph and Alexander David Morley.

He was preceded in death by his Parents, his wife and 3 sisters Helen Curran, Mary Kay Brock and Cecelia Fox and 5 brothers Thomas, Joseph, Charles, Frank and James Morley.

Friends may call Sunday from 2:00 - 4:00 PM at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Home, Austintown Chapel.
