CANFIELD - Prayers will be held Thursday at 10:15 a.m. at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Homes, Boardman-Canfield Chapel followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. at St. Michael Church for Leonard S. Grinstead who passed away Sunday at his home.
Leonard was born Dec. 27, 1939, in East Palestine, the son of Sylvester L. and Dorothy C. McClellan Grinstead.
Leonard was a graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School and Youngstown State University.
He served in the U.S. Naval Intelligence in 1957 and was honorably discharged in 1960, and received the Good Conduct Medal. Leonard retired in 2001 as Chief Electrical Engineer for CSC Industries Copperweld Steel Company in Warren, Ohio after 26 years of service. He also worked as an Electrical Engineering consultant for TCI in Canfield, Ohio, a Research and Development Engineer for Automatic Sprinkler Corporation in Youngstown, Ohio and was a System Analyst on the Minuteman Missile for the Department of Defense at NAFS Newark, Ohio.
He was a member of Trumbull County Industrial Management Association, Copperweld Management Club, Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers, American Iron and Steel Engineers and Youngstown State University Alumni Association. He was also a member of St. Michael Church.
Leonard's professional recognitions included International Who's Who of Intellectuals, Personalities of America, Men of Achievement, Men and Women of Distinction, International Who's Who of Contemporary Achievement, Dictionary of International Biography, Who's Who in Finance and Industry, Who's Who in Technology Today, Personalities of the West and Midwest and Who's Who in the Midwest. He enjoyed arranging music for and playing jazz piano and vibraphone.
Leonard leaves his wife, Patricia A. Jacobson Grinstead, whom he married Aug. 22, 1961; a son, Leonard M Grinstead of Lakeland, Fla.; a daughter, Mary P. Michael Hubbard of Anderson, Ind.; two grandsons, Bradley R. Grinstead and Joseph P. Cook, both of Toledo; a granddaughter, Stephanie R. Fruchey of Toledo; a great-grandson, Tyler Fruchey of Toledo; and two sisters, Nancy J. Niemczura of Boardman and Margaret A. Richard Novak of Campbell.
Leonard was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Fay J. Weigle; and a brother Terry B. Grinstead.
Family and friends may call Wednesday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
