Canfield - Funeral Services will be Monday at 10:00 AM in St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church , Youngstown for Leonard J. Remias Sr., 71 of Canfield who died Thursday evening at Forum Health Northside surround by his loving family.
Leonard was born in Youngstown Nov. 2, 1934 a son of Paul and Anna Remias.
He was a member of the Church where he was baptized, confirmed and married. He served on the church council and also had been president of the church. Leonard is a 1954 graduate of Chaney High School and has served on all the reunion class committees.
Leonard started working for Higley Flowers on Mahoning Avenue, Youngstown as a delivery driver while still in high school. He graduated from Hixon School in Michigan of floral design and subsequently became a partner in Flowers by Higley. Upon retirement of his partner he became the owner and changed the name to the Flower Garden.
Leonard was a fifty year member of the Masonic Sulgrave Lodge 696, served on the originating board of Shepherd Of the Valley, a former member of the Austintown Rotary Club. He was presently serving as Treasurer of the West Side Merchant and Civic Association and he served on the board and was president from 1990 to 1991.
Leonard was a loving husband, father and grandfather. His grandchildren brought him joy and happiness. He enjoyed taking them to the car shows and cruises and attended the weekly shows during the summer.
He leaves his wife the former Norma R. Ashley whom he married June 28, 1958,; a daughter Denise Lynne Remias of Poland; two sons Leonard J.Sr,Sheila and Bryan P. Stephanie Remias both of Canfield; a brother Paul M. Linda Remias; Two grandsons Adam John and Jared Matthew and a granddaughter Brianna Ashley. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Friends may call Sunday from 2:00-4:00 PM and from 6:00-8:00 PM at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Home, Boardman-Canfield Chapel and on Monday for one half hour prior to the funeral service at the church.
