BERLIN CENTER - A military service will be held Monday at 12:45 p.m. at the Canfield City Cemetery (Route 224) for Lewis "Lew" John Speece Jr., 89, who died Feb. 6, 2015, at his residence, surrounded by his family.
He was born on June 22, 1925, in Youngstown, a son of Lewis J. and Corine (Carlson) Speece.
Lew was a general contractor and owned Speece Construction. He was a World War II Marine Corps veteran and was the founder and president of the War Vet Museum in Canfield.
Lew was the commander of American Legion Post 177 Canfield from 1980 to 2013, and he belonged to the American Legion for 60 years.
He was married to the former Joyce Moser, whom he married Nov. 26, 1947, and she died Sept. 22, 2001.
Lew leaves his two sons, Douglas and his wife, Pam Sell Speece, and Bradley and his wife, Mary Boyer Speece, all of North Jackson; nine grandchildren, Stephanie, Brad Jr., Doug Jr., Andrea, Jaclyn, Sarah, Greg, Matt and Kaci; 11 great-grandchildren; and his daughter-in-law, Dawn Smith Speece Joseph.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Joyce; two sons, Lewis III and Stephen Speece; daughter-in-law Elaine Julian Speece; three sisters, Margaret Sauvegau, Marie McCoy and Ruth Bowman; and three brothers, William, Frederick and Thomas Speece.
