TUCSON, ARIZ. - Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Home, Austintown Chapel for Mrs. Lois Irma Schultz Baun, 89.
Mrs. Baun was born Jan. 29, 1922, on the Schultz farm near Revillo, S.D.
She attended a one room country schoolhouse with about a dozen students and then enrolled in South Dakota University and graduated with a degree in pharmacy in 1943. A very rare occurrence for a woman at that time.
Lois then moved to Youngstown and was hired as a pharmacist at St. Elizabeth Hospital. While there, she met and married Garry J. Baun and they moved to Ada, Ohio, where Lois taught pharmacy for two years until the birth of their first child in 1950.
Moving back to this area in 1956, she and her husband opened their pharmacy in Austintown known as Baun Pharmacy. They then moved to Tucson, where Lois worked as a pharmacist at the University of Arizona, while her husband worked at Tucson Medical Center. They retired in 1983 and traveled extensively.
She leaves her husband, Gary; two sons, Ed of Youngstown and Gerry Debra of Tucson; and one grandson, Daniel.
Friends may call Tuesday from 5 to 7 p.m. and from 10:30 a.m. to the time of the service on Wednesday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Tanque Verde Lutheran Pre-School, 8625 E. Tanque Verde Road, Tucson, AZ 85749.
